How to use MS windows fonts and ttf in the Ubuntu Linux

Add the multiverse in the /etc/apt/source.list

  

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy multiverse
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy multiverse

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy-updates multiverse
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy-updates multiverse

# apt-get update && apt-get install msttcorefonts

This process makes /msttcorefonts directory in /usr/share/fonts/truetype

# cd /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts/
# cp /media/hda1/windows/Fonts/*.ttc  .
# chmod 644 *.ttc
# cd .. && pwd
   /usr/share/fonts/truetype
#mkfontscale
#mkfontdir
# fc-cache -fv

"fc-cache -f" attaches the following line in the fonts.cache-1 file.
"msttcorefonts" 0 ".dir"

Check the font by using gnome-font-viewer

fonts.dir contains a list of all fonts which are in the "msttcorefonts" directory.
